A back-to-back test with a Rotodiff for the torque is the best way to perform the test. When using this technology, the current consumption constitutes just 10 to 15% of the tested power on the test bench.
In this simplified test, test principle 2 and 3 are tested in mechanical kinematics with a closed control loop.
To introduce the torque, gear 1 is connected with ROTODIFF image cam No. 2 and gear 2 with rotor No. 3 and with piston No. 1.
The torque is introduced by controlling the pressure in the piston chamber, which rolls while pressing on the cam. A delta rotational speed is also required to control the torque.
For the speed, we can use any drive system (electrical, hydraulic etc.) that is outside the kinematics.
Then, the rotating power is the product of these two parameters, which are actuated independently of each other.
In general, the test bench with ROTODIFF affects the mechanical gearbox or the gearbox for high-powered airplanes. However, other applications can be defined as well.
The test capacity of this type of test can be seen in 5MW and more.
